In Memory Of:
DJ Sycho:Sha-King Lamont Noel Arrindell, Lovingly known as Sycho, along with many other names, was born to Mercedes Smith and Sha Jean in the city of Brooklyn, NY on March 4th, 1986. Shortly after his birth, Sha-King migrated to Aruba, alongside his mother and older brother, where he not only developed a fondness for nature, art, animals, and rural life, but where he grew a great affinity for the water, often losing himself to the serenity of any beach or pool.
It was in Aruba that Sha-King became multilingual, learning the languages of Spanish, Dutch, Papiamento, and standard American English. Along with linguistic flair, Sha-King exhibited an artistic aptitude, first establishing himself as a poet and hip-hop artist during his teenaged years, then later evolving himself into the popular and enamored “DJ Sycho”, by which he is still regarded today. |
Although heavily involved in music, Sha-King was also a businessman, finding his niche while attending Westinghouse HS. It was there that Sha-King fell in love with the field of optics, continuing that journey at City Tech Community College. This became the catalyst for Sha-King’s successful business tenure, leading to the opening of multiple businesses over the course of 15 years. Sha-King wanted the best for people in all aspects, making sure that people can maneuver through life with clear vision and good health.
Sha-King viewed life in a “bluetiful” way, uniting people and communities uniquely. Taking all the lessons he acquired daily as a husband, father, son, brother, friend, and businessman, he quickly dispensed it back into the community, aiming to uplift and support those around him. In favor of inclusivity and togetherness, Sha-King was member to many community leadership organizations. He was a Mason of the Martin Luther King Jr.157 lodge, a faithful member of Community Restoration in Progress, co-founder to social and community group, J-Walkerz, co-chief executive officer of 5th Quarter Records, and an avid student of the Jewish faith. |
Humorously donned “the people’s favorite Jew”, Sha-King aimed to bring joy to the lives of all those he encountered. Truly a big kid at heart, he couldn’t help but infect people with his laugh and blazingly warm spirit. Commonly described by friends as a gentle giant, Sha-King most enamored for his sense of inclusion, for always staying true to himself, for being the life of the party, for having the ability to eliminate any foul energy or mood, but most fondly, for exemplifying all the ways in which humanity should be.
Although Sha-King wore a multitude of hats, he wore each of them perfectly, striving daily to be a devoted husband, exceptional father, loving and caring son, exemplary brother, determined businessman, inspirational leader and motivator, and a committed friend to all who knew him. Whether throwing up a “C”, screaming “Walker Out!” pinning on a Yarmulke, or cracking jokes around the table with family, Sha-King found a way to show a connectedness and closeness to all those in his life. |
Sha-King is survived by his wife and children: Amanda Harragin-Arrindell, Hope Taylor, Sha-King Smith, and Sha-Amali Arrindell. His mother and father, Mercedes Smith and Sha Jean.
